Overview

The Senior Designer leads the preparation and coordination of complex models, fabrication drawings, assembly drawings, and bills of material for GW Modular data center infrastructure. Reporting to the Engineering Design Manager, this role owns assigned design packages, resolves integration and manufacturing issues, and mentors designers. The Senior Designer develops production documents from approved engineering requirements and coordinates technical decisions with the responsible engineers.

Responsibilities

  • Lead assigned design packages from layout through production release using SolidWorks and related CAD tools. Plan deliverables, dependencies, and review milestones.
  • Develop detailed models, drawings, and bills of material for modular structures, enclosures, racking, equipment supports, and mechanical assemblies.
  • Coordinate power, cooling, piping, and cable management interfaces with the responsible disciplines. Resolve clashes, access constraints, and connection conflicts.
  • Check dimensions, tolerances, fit, material selections, and fabrication details against approved requirements and manufacturing capabilities.
  • Lead design reviews for assigned packages. Track decisions, close comments, and escalate unresolved engineering inputs before release.
  • Support structural and thermal analysis with model geometry, loading information, and design alternatives. Incorporate results approved by the responsible engineers.
  • Work with Manufacturing to improve fabrication, welding, assembly, and installation details. Reduce unnecessary part variation and recurring shop questions.
  • Support prototypes, testing, and validation. Convert lessons from production and field feedback into approved drawing and model improvements.
  • Maintain PDM discipline, model structure, standard components, and revision traceability. Check the consistency of released drawings and bills of material.
  • Mentor designers and review their assigned work. Help the Engineering Design Manager estimate design effort, balance priorities, and improve design practices.

Performance is measured against targets established with the Engineering Design Manager.

  • On-time release of complete design packages with resolved discipline interfaces.
  • First-pass review quality and reduction of drawing-related manufacturing rework.
  • Accurate bills of material, controlled revisions, and consistent model standards.
  • Effective mentoring, reliable effort estimates, and adoption of reusable design details.

Qualifications

Work Experience

  • At least 10 years of relevant SolidWorks design experience in modular structures, industrial equipment, enclosures, or comparable fabricated assemblies.
  • Advanced ability to develop and coordinate complex assemblies, fabrication drawings, and bills of material.
  • Strong knowledge of sheet metal, structural frames, welding, tolerances, and manufacturing and assembly processes.
  • Experience leading design package reviews and resolving mechanical, electrical, and structural interfaces with engineering teams.
  • Experience with PDM, revision control, standard parts, and controlled production releases.
  • Demonstrated ability to mentor designers, check work, estimate effort, and manage several design priorities.
  • Clear technical communication and practical problem solving with Manufacturing, Engineering, project teams, and vendors.

Education and Preferred Experience

Associate degree, technical diploma, or bachelor’s degree in drafting, design, engineering technology, engineering, or a related field, or equivalent relevant experience. Modular data center systems, HVAC, integrated power equipment, and SolidWorks PDM Professional experience are preferred.

Work Environment

This is an onsite design position with regular coordination on the manufacturing floor. Work includes computer use, reviewing equipment and assemblies, and entering active production areas with required protective equipment. Occasional travel or extended hours may be needed for project requirements. Essential functions may be performed with reasonable accommodation.
